Because of the impending weather, I decided at the last minute to purchase a white tent as a shelter. I chose white because there are several shows that only allow white tents and so I figured if I had to purchase a tent, it might as well be white. The salesman in the sporting goods section assured me of how easy it was to pop this tent up, but when I actually opened the tent and looked at the owner's manual, clearly there was a sketch of at least two people popping this tent up. It took the husband of a neighboring vendor, my dad, and me to get that thing up! And guess what? It didn't even rain, but that was a good purchase I must admit. One of my vending goals is to add one new "something" to the vending experience. At first it was the foldable table and this time it was a tent. Next I will work on making the tent more presentable. I saw all kinds of neat ideas there.
I didn't make a lot of sales at this event. I think having two larger festivals on the same day in the same area was not the best thing, but as long as I don't "go into the hole" vending, I look at it as a wonderful networking experience. However, the sales I did make are largely contributed to my dad. He has the gift. Case in point: He had his blood pressure checked at the festival and when he was through, several nurses came out and bought things from me. What did he say? Who knows, but maybe I should take him along more often.

ReplyDeleteAwwh daddy's little girl outing!!! How special. Nice display and set-up too! I've been saying for quite a while that I'm going to pick up a covered tent like that to do outdoor portraits. I'm glad that you had a nice time with your pops and I hope that next time around you'll have a better turn out. Don't give up!

That is so ABSOLUTELY kind of your dad to come along with you at the event! Those tents are tricky, I've helped assemble/set up one before, it's WORK! Definitely a 2+ person job. Also, I LOVE those printed photography cards!

ReplyDeleteIt always helps to have someone come along with you to these events too, even if it's nothing more than having someone man the booth so you can take a break (use the rest room, eat, etc). Having a born salesman is a bonus!
YAY! Congrats on the sales, no matter how many there may have been, it's a great experience to have. :) I think you should definitely take dear dad along with you next time- he's your secret weapon. I can see him taking the place of that dress form you have there.... ;)
