I Believe in Good Hair

I believe in good hair.  I believe that all hair is good hair.  But I believe that you can have good hair, but a bad hair day.  Thankfully today was a good hair day!

Last week my new hairstyle and that of my co-worker became a brief conversation at lunch.  I informed the table that my hairstyle is subject to change at least every 3 days....depending on the weather.  Then Irene came through and I wasn't sure what would happen.  Thankfully, my hair worked through the humidity and today was a good hair day.  As for tomorrow, we shall see.  lol

p.s.  One of my students asked me if I was from Jamaica or the Bahamas?  Over the years, I have been asked if I was from Jamaica (by some Jamaicans), Barbados, the Dominican (uh, until I started talking), the West Indies, and now the Bahamas.  ???  Maybe somebody needs to trace my roots.  I might be entitled to a free vacation!

Garlic and Herb Shrimp Pasta

It's about time that I posted something I've cooked.  It feels like ages since I've used my kitchen for the purpose it was intended.  I had to break back into the cooking mode gently.  So, I decided to fix this really quick and easy pasta dish so that I would have something for lunch, now that I've discovered that there IS a microwave in the school cafeteria after all.

So  here's a really quick and easy pasta dish.  Let me repeat, really quick and easy.

Garlic and Herb Shrimp Pasta

Ingredients:
linguini pasta (cooked and drained)
frozen stir fry vegetables
shrimp
baby portobello mushrooms, sliced
baby spinach
1 container of Kraft Philadelphia Savory Garlic Cooking Creme

Directions:
Cook and drain the pasta.  Meanwhile, in a large, nonstick pan, sauté the stir fry vegetables, add the mushrooms and cook until almost done.  Then add the spinach.  As it begins to wilt, add the shrimp, the pasta, and the cooking creme.  Cook until heated through and spinach and shrimp are done.  If desired, season with crushed black pepper to taste.

Like I said, really quick and easy!

Okra, anyone?

So my farming neighbor, also gave us some okra.  For some reason I have been craving okra a lot this year, so I'm thankful for this batch.  But, you know I couldn't resist a photo op, right?

 

 

p.s.  I'm looking to reopen my Etsy shop at the end of this month.  Irene has made her way through our state.  Lots of high winds and rains to follow.

Life as I Know It - Weekly Update #3

Recently, I've experienced a few happy moments that I wanted to share with you:

Purchasing a Groupon coupon for Yarnhouse and oohing and ahhing over all the fabulous yarns in there.  I purchased three skeins (pics in another post), but it was very difficult to decide what to choose.

Just before walking into said yarn store, I found out I was accepted for a new job as a middle school science/social studies teacher which would start the very next day.  When I got to said job, in the main office there was this crafty display.  I knew then I was at home...

Then, as I was riding back from an out-of-town church service today, I had the pleasure of sitting beside this cute little one.

I listened to his gurgling and foot shuffling while I worked on a new project.

Just sharing some of my most recent happy moments.

Well, I've been mentally working on this blanket for quite some time, and now it's finally done!  I don't like to have a project "owed out" for too long, especially when you're working on smaller projects all along.  But now that I'm finished, I'm ready to make one little girl smile.  Hope you like it, Kendall!

Making Room for B

My Grandma Beulah celebrated her 79th birthday on this past Saturday.  It was a "Girl's Day" celebration filled with loads of laughter and food.  Who attended?  My grandma (of course), my mom, two of her sisters, and two grandchildren (my cousin and me).  Now, in all fairness, my uncle did cook the meats and leave it at my grandma's house since he was unable to attend, but for the first real time that I can remember, it was just us ladies!

We intended to take my grandma to the Crepe Myrtle Festival in town, but it rained out, so  we spent our time indoors.

Barbequed chicken cooked on the grill, spareribs, tossed salad, green beans, baked beans, an amazing squash casserole (I will smuggle the recipe), sweet tea, lemonade, and for dessert, these delectable devil food cake cupcakes with heath topping.

It was great to see my grandma on her actual birthday (although it's a different day that we've celebrated in the past - I guess those midwives didn't always get the birthdates straight back then - lol).  It was also wonderful to thank her, in-person, for the lovely gift of her sewing machine, which I'm affectionately calling "B".

Just need to put her in the shop and get her all cleaned up and ready to go!

Ummm...Chibas

One of my favorite take out places to eat is Chibas, a Japanese restaurant, in town.  When I walk in, they say, "Vegetable Platter?"  And then I just smile.  It feels great to be remembered.

So this is their vegetable platter and it's served with the traditional yum yum sauce.  Enjoy!
